What a miserable day, but as luck would have it, there was a brief respite and an opportunity to get a walk in before the next deluge of rain fell. I wasn't expecting much, as the wind was coming directly off the sea from the northeast.
So it was a really nice surprise to see a Black Redstart at the northeast corner of the cove and then watch it make its way down the beach to southeast corner. Also on the beach were 2 Rock Pipits and 3 Wrens, whilst overhead the local Ravens were enjoying the stiff breeze.
Elsewhere, the only highlights were a Goldcrest, briefly at the back of the cove, and the ringed female Chaffinch still in the Private Garden just above Penns Wood.
Here are a few images from today, including some real boat mastery from the skipper returning to Weymouth after picking up his Lobster pots:
Church Ope Cove had a bit of a battering today.
With the wind from the northeast there was a fair bit of swell out to sea.
Cloudy skies and a few rays of sunlight on the beach at Church Ope Cove.
Having not seen a Black Redstart at the cove for quite a few days, it was nice surprise to see one again. Though this one wasn't stopping and after flitting around the rocks, headed on down the beach. Below are a couple of videos of it feeding on Kelp Flies.
A Rock Pipit and.......
......another.
The female "leg-ringed" Chaffinch is still present at the top of Penns Wood
A different angle than yesterday's image. Maybe I'll be able to put the images together, once I've photographed all around her leg!!
And Ted doing what he likes best and that is scrambling up hills and.......
..........coming back down of course.
