The forecast was for rain and sure enough it arrived at around 1:50pm. Fortunately Ted and I had just got back from a quick walk down to the cove and back. Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Grove Cliffs, The Cuttings, Bumpers Lane, Broadcroft Quarry Lane, Broadcroft Butterfly Reserve and Lower Horse Paddock

It was a slightly extended walk today to see if there were any early Wheatears along Penn's Weare. Unsurprisingly there weren't any, but I did come across a pair of Stonechats close to the WWII Pill Box. Other highlights were a Goldcrest in Penns Wood, a single Rock Pipit along Penn's Weare (there were none at the cove) and several Fulmars along Grove Cliffs.

The sun might have been out and there was wall to wall skies, but the wind from the south-east was pretty raw. In a few sheltered spots I came across a few Wall Lizards, Common Droneflies and a Marmalade Hoverfly.

Pennsylvania Castle Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle and Bumpers Lane

When the wind comes in from the south-east you can certainly feel the difference in temperature, especially when its a very late afternoon walk and the sun is setting.

I did at least manage to get to the cove before the shadows covered the north-east corner of the cliff face. Unfortunately with the wind coming straight in off the sea, there wasn't a single bird to be seen there.

The only highlights were singles of Fulmar, Gannet, Sparrowhawk and Stock Dove.

Birds Recorded:
1 Fulmar
1 Gannet
Sparrowhawk
Kestrel
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
1 Stock Dove
Wood Pigeon
Collared Dove
