RSPB Radipole Lake

I seem to be on a theme here visiting reserves in Weymouth, but as I was in Weymouth shopping ,it seemed to be a shame not to have a walk around Radipole before I headed home.

Main highlights were a Great White Egret leaving the reserve to north and 21 Black-tailed Godwits heading in the same direction later.

The pair of Stonechats are still in the north-east corner of the Buddleia loop, and also along the loop I came across two Chiffchaffs.

The most vocal birds were Water Rails and Cetti's Warblers. The latter bursting into song in the bushes right next to me, on at least 5 occasions. They are loud!!

Sadly I just couldn't get to an open spot to photograph this Great White Egret as it flew over my head. Here it is centre frame disappearing north.

One of many Grey Herons on the reserve. This one was on one of the perches opposite the Visitors Centre.

A very elegant looking Mute Swan.

And close-up.

Two drake Tufted Ducks and a female.

Another female Tufted Duck

Hmm another hybrid/feral duck.

Not sure why they took off, but these 21 Black-tailed Godwits appear to be heading towards RSPB Lodmoor.

On first appearance you would think this Herring Gull has crash-dived into the lake. In fact it's just ducking its head and body for a wash.

Just for size comparison a Common Gull on the left and a Black-headed Gull on the right.

Another Common Gull having a stretch.

More Robin photos.

There were plenty at Lodmoor yesterday.

And just as many here at Radipole.

Possibly a pair, especially when another bird got too close and was chased off.

A male Stonechat in its usual spot with.......

...........the female at the north-east corner of the Buddleia Loop.

One of the two Chiffchaffs I came across today.

Plants:
Violet sp.

A Violet, though as to which one I'm not sure. But there were quite a few beginning to flower.

General Shots:

From what I could gather this is the RSPB workforce repairing the Sand Martin nesting site.
