The Fleet

Having dropped the lad off at work, I dropped into The Fleet, on the way back home, to see what was about.

On the exposed sand banks were several Great Black-backed Gulls, a few Oystercatchers and Carrion Crows. Whilst further up the Fleet were quite a few Herring Gulls and a Little Egret.

Bobbing about on the water were at least 7 Red-breasted Mergansers and more gulls.

Overhead 13 Dark-bellied Brent Geese flew over the Portland Beach Road, from the harbour and made their way down The Fleet. On the other side of The Fleet a pair of Shelduck took off and flew high up and over Chesil Beach.

Here are a few images and videos from today:

Here are 13 Dark-bellied Brent Geese flying over Portland Beach Road. In the back ground is Fortuneswell on Portland, above the town on the far left is the Portland Heights Hotel and just behind the geese, one of the many Kite Surfers in the Harbour.

And having flown over the main road they headed up The Fleet, or is that down The Fleet!!

Here are a few of the Red-breasted Mergansers on The Fleet.

And my first Shelduck of the year, flying up and over Chesil Beach.

There weren't as many Oystercatchers here on this visit, compare to last week. This individual looked as if he was pulling out Lugworm, whilst this...............

..........one was making its way through the shallows looking for Razor Clams

Here it is in slow motion catching the Razor Clam and then flying off with it.

This Great Black-backed Gull spent a good 15 minutes trying to swallow what looks like a Flounder.

After videoing it for awhile I stopped and then came back to it, just as it finally swallowed the fish.

And Ted of course enjoying a walk on a new patch.

Birds Recorded: 1 Little Egret, 13 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 2 Shelduck, 7 Red-breasted Merganser, Oystercatcher, Mediterranean Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Pied Wagtail and Carrion Crow
