A bit of a chill in the air today and an afternoon where I spent most of my time working in the back garden.
Highlight this afternoon was a Chiffchaff singing, just a few gardens down. Also about were a pair of Goldfinches, with one bird collecting nesting material it had found hanging off a Sycamore branch.
Just the one Buff-tailed Bumblebee seen, and that was it.
Later at around 2:55pm there was a very loud rumble and a bit of a rattle on the windows. And apparently it wasn't just on Portland, but heard and felt across the whole of the Southwest and as far south as Normandy in France. The RAF said it wasn't a sonic boom from any of their planes and it is now thought, that it may well have been a meteorite entering the earth's atmosphere. Will we ever know!!!
Here are a few images and a video from today:

This Goldfinch was one of a pair.
It spent ages trying to pull a piece of "fibre" off this Sycamore tree.
Here it is, in its final stages of pulling the "fibre" off for its nest. In the background you can just make out a Chiffchaff singing, along with a Robin and a few House Sparrows.
