The Fleet and Portland Harbour

Having dropped David off at work, I dropped into Ferrybridge again for a walk with Ted. It was getting quite late, but there were still quite a few birds about as the tide began to come in.

Main highlight was a Skylark, which having been chased by a Meadow Pipit, dropped to the ground right in front of me and Ted. I can't believe its my first Skylark of the year!!

Here are a few images and a video from today:

The sun going down slowly over The Fleet and Chesil Beach.

Along the Fleet one of 3 Little Egrets feeding in the shallows.

A pair of Oystercatchers almost silhouetted against the setting sun

A Red-breasted Merganser. There are still quite a few in the Fleet and in the harbour.

In the harbour were 22 Dark-bellied Brent Geese. It wont be long before they and the Red-breasted Mergansers will be heading north for the Summer.

This Skylark was being harassed by a Meadow Pipit, as it was flying over the main road. Next thing is, it dropped down to the grass, just a few metres away from where Ted and I were standing.

It certainly didn't seem to bothered by me and Ted watching on.

Talking about Ted, here he is trying to find me as I played a bit of Hide and seek with him.

Birds Recorded: 3 Little Egret, 22 Dark-bellied Brent Goose, 20+ Red-breasted Merganser, Oystercatcher, Mediterranean Gull, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Common Gull, 1 Skylark, 1 Meadow Pipit, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Starling
