Wakeham

This evening a charm of 50+ Goldfinches in a neighbours tree.

One of the largest flocks of Goldfinches I have seen here in Wakeham. Visually not brilliant but you can certainly hear.

Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church Grounds, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings, Bumpers Lane and Lower Horse Paddocks

A walk with a difference today, as my son Tom and his girlfriend Laura came to visit me and Dawn, all the way from Shropshire. The walk around Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare and Rufus Castle I think is probably one of the best walks on the island. And so it proved to be, though the one disappointment was realising that a few of the Ammonites on the beach had disappeared under a landslip.

Fortunately neither of them are squeamish when it comes to insects and were both impressed by the huge numbers of Ivy Bees and hoverflies about. Though with so much activity it was sometimes difficult to tell the Ivy Bees from some very small Honey Bees, which have just appeared!!

In Penns Wood was Spotted Flycatcher and just before we left the Cottage a small flock of Siskins passed overhead, plus a Hummingbird Hawk-moth around the Valerian in the back garden.

Here are a few images from this morning

Ted following me up The Cuttings where there were.......

.................dozens of Ivy Bees and this Rose Chafer on the flowering Ivy.

On the beach there were several Wall Lizards scurrying around plus this female Large White butterfly.

And a Wall Lizard, this one was in the grounds of St Andrew's Church
