Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove and Wakeham Wood

The forecast for today was rain, but fortunately it held off this morning and I was able to get in a walk before it arrived. Some really good highlights on an otherwise very dreary looking day. The pick of the bunch were 3 Spotted Flycatchers with 2 Penns Wood and another behind the huts at Church Ope Cove.

Here's a break down of the birds recorded this morning:

Penns Wood: 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap, 3 Goldcrests, 2 Spotted Flycatchers and 3 Robins

Church Ope Cove: 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 2 Goldcrests, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 4 Robins, 4 House Martins, 6 Swallows, 1 Grey Wagtail and 8 Rock Pipits.

Wakeham Wood: 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap and 3 Robin

Also noted were 3 Ravens at Church Ope Cove with 2 birds chasing a Herring Gull back and forth across the cove. Also here a Shag feeding in the shallows right up to the shoreline.

Here are a few images from this morning

Not a day for sitting on the beach here at Church Ope Cove but there was plenty to see here.

In the shelter of the trees here was this....................

...........Spotted Flycatcher. I think I need a bigger lens!!

Not sure what was up with the Ravens, but they were continually calling and chasing gulls here at the cove.

This one was having a good look from the woods at the back of the cove.

A lot of Robins seen on my walk today, including this youngster at the top of Penns Wood.

A few Grey Squirrels starting to venture out on foraging trips. This one in the grounds of Pennsylvania Castle.

Robin's Pincushion on a Dog Rose. This is a gall caused by the larvae of a tiny gall wasp, Dipoloepis rosaea
