Wakeham Wood, Bottom Combe Quarry, Perryfield, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings, Bumpers Lane, Bumpers Quarry, Broadcroft Quarry Lane and Lower Horse Paddock

Another sunny but blustery day. The easterly wind is still driving in, making any decent bird watching hard work. The only patch worth watching was in Wakeham Wood.

Here are the highlights from Wakeham Wood and the rest of my walk:

Wakeham Wood: 3 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff (1 singing), 3 Willow Warbler (2 singing) and 2 Spotted Flycatchers

Bottom Combe Quarry: 1 Chiffchaff and 1 Greenfinch

Penns Wood: 1 Chiffchaff and 3 Goldcrest

Church Ope Cove: 12 Rock Pipit, 1 Black-headed Gull and 2 Swallows

Bumpers Lane Quarry: 1 Blackcap

Bumpers Lane: 1 Blackcap

Even fewer butterflies today with just a handful of Red Admirals, Large Whites, a couple of Painted Lady's and 2 Speckled Woods.

Wherever there was any shelter I came across hundreds of bees, wasps and hoverflies on the flowering Ivy. And still plenty of Ivy Bees about.

A few Wall Lizards about and some juveniles as well.

Here are a few images from this morning:

Wakeham Wood is proving to be a bit of a hot spot, especially with the strong easterlies over the past few days. Today there was not one but two.........

..........Spotted Flycatchers, plus a host of warblers including 2 singing Willow Warblers and 1 singing Chiffchaff.

It is still rough on the beach at Church Ope Cove and today's visitor was a.........

........Black-headed Gull. Normally there are Herring Gulls here, so good to see a different gull. This is an adult in Winter plumage.
Nearly forgot the rock Pipits.

Today there were 12 feeding very close to the shoreline.

Up on Penns weare a Wall Lizard in miniature. Probably no more than 5cm long and its still got its tail.

Sorry more Ivy Bees. These and the following images were just up from The Cuttings.

Not a bee but a Dead Head Hoverfly

Along the same stretch of hedgerow a Speckled Wood and this...........

.........Ichneumon Wasp sp

In the centre of these Rose Hips a Robin's Pincushion and is a gall caused by the larvae of a tiny gall wasp, Dipoloepis rosaea
