Wakeham Wood, Perryfield Butterfly Reserve, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings, Bumpers Lane, Broadcroft Quarry Lane Pools and Broadcroft Quarry Lane

Well it might be Friday 13th but there was nothing unlucky about the bird watching today, with the main highlight being a Wryneck I nearly stood on at the pools Here.

I was watching a Chiffchaff and moved into a better position to watch it. To do this I took a small track to the side of the pool and as I looked down, there was a Wryneck looking up at me. A split second later it was off and over the Buddleia. I did check the quarry on the east side of the Buddleia but after 30 minutes I gave up.

Other highlights including the Wryneck were:

Wakeham Wood: 4 Chiffchaff and 1 Blackcap

Perryfields: 5 Chiffchaff

Penns Wood: 1 Chiffchaff

St Andrews Church and Church Ope Cove Woods: 4 Chiffchaff (2 singing), 8 Blackcap and 2 Spotted Flycatchers

Church Ope Cove: 10 Rock Pipit and 1 Pied Wagtail

Penns Weare: 2 Blackcap

Bumpers Lane Quarry: 2 Blackcap (one in sub-song) and a Greenfinch

Bumpers Lane: 1 Blackcap

Broadcroft Quarry Lane Pools: 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap and 1 Wryneck

Broadcroft Quarry Lane: 2 Blackcap

Throughout my walk there were 100's of Meadow Pipits flying over, including a huge flock in Perryfields Quarry which were feeding on the ground and were then put up by one of the big plant hire machines. It wasn't just pipits flying through but hundreds of Swallows and House Martins.

Not too many butterflies, bees, wasps and hoverflies seen this morning, I was quite early and the best I could do was 3 Ivy Bees just up from The Cuttings Here.

Here are a few images and a couple of videos from this morning:

In Wakeham Wood one of the 4 Chiffchaffs here.

A Meadow Pipit on the lookout at Perryfields Quarry. The other 100+ birds were behind it.

Also at Perryfields one of the 5 Chiffchaff feeding in a Sycamore.
