Wakeham Wood, Perryfield, Penns Wood, St Andrews Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare and Rufus Castle

Another windy day and showery day and the main highlights were in Wakeham Wood again with 8 Chiffchaff (1 singing), 3 Blackcap and a Song Thrush

Other areas of note were:

Penns Wood: 3 Chiffchaff (1 singing) and 2 Blackcap

St Andrews Church
: 1 Chiffchaff and a Goldcrest

Church Ope Cove Wood: 1 Chiffchaff, 3 Blackcap (1 sub-song) and 1 Kestrel

Church Ope Cove: 10 Rock Pipits and 20+ Swallows

Rufus Castle and Museum: 1 Goldcrest and a Sparrowhawk

Even fewer butterflies today and 4 Red Admirals, 2 Speckled Woods and a Painted Lady was all I found.

The Hummingbird Hawk-moth is still in Wakeham wood.

Even fewer bees, wasps and hoverflies today. The only Ivy Bees I found were at Rufus Castle and along the path up to Portland Museum.

Here are a few images from this morning:

Good to see a few more Chiffchaffs in Wakeham Wood.

And another

Also here were a few Blackcaps.

All three Blackcaps were males. This one was feeding on Blackberries.

A Wren looks on.

A Speckled Wood

The larvae of a Harlequin Ladybird.

On the beach at Church Ope Cove were 10 Rock Pipits.

Here is another one on the south facing cliff at the cove.

This is a Woodlouse which was on the rocks on the beach. It is either an immature Oniscus or Porcellio

The wet and windy weather has had a bit of an effect on the Ivy Bees, with only a few venturing out from their nests.

A Dead Head Hoverfly

And another

I guess this another Dead Head Hoverfly, but one that is almost half the size of the ones shown above.

Radipole RSPB Reserve

While the car was being towed away by the AA this afternoon, I popped into the Swannery Car Park and managed a record shot of the Common Scoter swimming around with the local Tufted Ducks

Being a "Sea Duck" it's a pretty unusual to see scoters on inland waters. So a good bird to see, even though the photo doesn't do it any justice. Here are a few wonderful photos and a video from the local birders Here, Here, HereHere and Here

Oh and my effort. Almost an embarrassment showing it.
