Wakeham Wood, Perryfield Butterfly Reserve, Penns Wood, St Andrews Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare and Bumpers Lane

Another cloudy start to the day, but very close and humid. Still many birds passing through with the following recorded:

Wakeham Wood: 1 Chiffchaff

Perryfields Butterfly Reserve: 2 Chiffchaffs

Penns Wood: 2 Chiffchaffs

St Andrew's Church and Church Ope Cove Woods: 2 Chiffchaff

Church Ope Cove: 8 Rock Pipits, 1 Grey Wagtail and 30+ hirundine

Penns Weare: 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcap and 1 Yellow Wagtail

Bumpers Lane: 2 Chiffchaff and 2 Blackcap.

Off Church Ope Cove and along the coast here, there has been and still is the big Boat Fishing competition going on. And don't the gulls know it with 51 Great Black-backed Gulls sat just off the stern of one of the competition boats.*

Despite the cloudy conditions there were still good numbers of Red Admiral about. Not so many Painted Lady's, but certainly an increase in Speckled Woods with at least 10 seen along my walk.

The same/another Hummingbird Hawk-moth in the grounds of St Andrew's Church again.

The Ivy at the interchange where the steps from Rufus Castle meet those from the church are still alive with beeswasps and hoverflies. There was certainly an increase in Ivy Bee numbers today. I checked out the area where the Ivy Bee nests were last year and all very quiet apart from 3 Ivy Bees coming out of one of the nests. The weather forecast for this weekend is warm sunny conditions, so with a bit of luck the nests might become a bit more active. We shall see!!

Here are a few images from this morning:

A Rock Pipit calling from the roof of one of the beach huts.
