King Barrow Quarries Nature Reserve, High Angle Battery, Fancy's Farm and Vaycroft Quarry

And another warm sunny day here on Portland, so for a change it was a walk at the northern tip of the island around Kings Barrow Quarries and Fancy Farm.

Only a handful of migrants noted with a Wheatear and 2 Blackcaps seen in the reserve, plus a Yellow Wagtail overhead.

Around by Fancy's Farm were several Swallows and House Martins, and in one of the bushes there was a Chiffchaff.

There were a few butterflies, including a Painted Lady.

Here are a few images from today:

King Barrow Quarry Information Board

Just the one Wheatear seen in the quarry.

There's always a Kestrel close-by.

A Small Heath butterfly. There are quite a few of these on the wing at the moment.

One of the "blue" butterflies. Difficult to see which one as it is quite worn. Possibly a Common Blue.

There seems to be an awful lot of Small Whites on the island. Are they migrants from across the English Channel!!

Common Field Grasshopper (Chorthippus brunneus)

Looking north-west along Chesil Beach. One amazing view.

Ted on his rambles. I think he was feeling it a bit today.
