South Hill Farm and surrounding fields

A different walk today, which saw me, Dawn and Ted, birdwatching around the farm and neighbouring fields, in a very strong north-easterly wind.

Highlights were dozens of Wheatears in the fields just south of Southwell, where they were joined by Yellow Wagtails and Pied Wagtails. Normally I would say that overhead there were dozens of Swallows and House Martins feeding, but with that stiff breeze they were flying just a few feet off the ground.

Also noted were a few Chiffchaffs in the hedgerows and a bit of a surprise a lone Lapwing in the field just up from Culverwell.

Here are a few images and a video from today:

There was a huge presence of Wheatears in the fields. All waiting for that wind to drop I expect.

A few butterflies were seen in the more sheltered spots. This pristine butterfly is a Comma.

And Ted of course, who is just about to do one of his Bichon buzzes.
