Wakeham

Today was spent sorting the shed out. Its amazing how untidy they can get. So while I got stuck in, Ted had a walk with Dawn, so at least he got his walk today.

Main highlights were a Willow Warbler calling from the neighbours Sycamore and more Siskins overhead.

In the garden I came across a small mouse under the corrugated sheet. Not sure what species it was, but the sheet is turning out to be a bit of hot spot for wildlife.

The pond was busy again, not only with wasps coming down to the waters edge, but sat just under surface was one of the 3 resident Frogs.

The only butterflies seen today were just a few Large Whites and Small White butterflies flitting about.

I managed to pot Rusty Dot Pearl moth, which I found in the Ivy and I also found a very colourful Oak Eggar caterpillar

The bee count is well down now, with just 2 Honey Bees seen, plus a few Common Carders and White-tailed Bumblebees.

When the sun finally came out, so did the hoverflies with dozens of Common Droneflies on the Valerian and other flowering plants in the borders.

Here are a few images from today.

The pond has really been a success, with both Palmate Newts and Common Frogs like this one.

A Common Dronefly

A Common Green Shieldbug

This colourful caterpillar is an early instar of the..........

...........Oak Eggar moth. I came across it on one of the many brambles in the garden. Before it pupates it will grow a lot bigger and as it does so, it will change colour. More on this moth Here.
