Another very windy day and not much sun either. However it wasn't all bad as 10 Wheatears were feeding/sheltering in the Lower Horse Paddock. Elsewhere there was a Chiffchaff and a Blackcap in the Lane, a Yellow Wagtail overhead plus a Golden Plover, which was a new Autumn bird for me and a first for the year.
Just a handful of Swallows and House Martins passed through and in the opposite direction several Siskins and Meadow Pipits heading north.
Just 2 butterfly species seen, Large and Small Whites.
Here are a few images and videos:
............Wheatears find a few insects before heading off across the English Channel. There was a quite a variation in plumage colours, this is a either a female or immature.
An immature male!!
And another male
And a third male.
You need a break every now, especially when you've been running about after insects
Ever wondered how Wheatears got their name. Well it's from the white rump. In days gone by it was an Old English derivative for 'white' (wheat) and 'arse' (ear). Except in today's world we would say white rump.
This one shows that white rump as it takes off and this.......
.........video shows it quite well. Mind you it was a job keeping up with it.
The horse paddock was also a good spot for these Herring Gulls as they also took shelter.
One of the adult Herring Gulls on walkabout.
A Dark Bush-cricket
Love this shot of Ted waiting for me. Unfortunately he was walking...................
.............down the wrong lane.
