Wakeham

Well I guess it is April and the showers associated with this month are only to be expected. However instead of just rain, we also had sleet and even snow falling. So it was case of pottering around the garden when the sun came out.

At least it was mild enough for a few bees to put in an appearance, and there were a couple of Honey Bees, several Bronze Furrow Bees, 3 Chocolate Mining Bees and 2 Ashy Mining Bees in the flower beds.

The resident male Dunnock has now stopped singing from the top of the Cherry Tree and is helping the female collect food for their chicks, which have just hatched in the past few days.

Here are a few images from today:

The pond is looking really good at the moment and hopefully in the next few days I shall be placing a Wildlife Camera somewhere close to it. If all goes to plan I'll be able to capture any creatures visiting the pond day and night. So watch this space.

Growing in amongst the stone wall behind the pond is this Ivy-leaved Toadflax, Cymbalaria muralis (It also goes by the name of Kenilworth Ivy, Coliseum Ivy, Oxford Ivy, Mother of Thousands, Pennywort and Wandering Sailor)

Birds seen and heard from the back garden: Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Dunnock, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch

Bees Recorded: Honey Bee (Apis mellifera), Bronze Furrow Bee (Halictus tumulorum), Chocolate Mining Bee (Andrena scotica) and 2 Ashy Mining Bee (Andrena cineraria)
