Lower Horse Paddock, Bumpers Lane, Broadcroft Quarry Lane, Broadcroft Butterfly Reserve

Well you could tell Lockdown has been eased and with it being Easter, the roads were mega busy here in Wakeham. In fact every car space in the road at the front of the cottage has been taken up!!!

Still I always have a contingency plan and that is when the cove and woods are busy, Ted and I just walk the lanes and butterfly reserve.

The only migrants noted today were small flocks of Linnets passing through, plus a handful of Meadow Pipits. In fact the bird watching was pretty disappointing, though I did see 3 species of birds of prey, a Buzzard being mobbed by a Sparrowhawk over the butterfly reserve and a Kestrel hovering over Bumpers Lane.

With that chilly north easterly, I only came across one butterfly, a Small White. However in the more sheltered spots and in the sun, I did come across quite a few bees and hoverflies, including my first Red-tailed Bumblebee of the year

Here are a few images and a video from today:

One of few Robins to be found in the butterfly reserve.

I'm pretty sure this an Early Mining Bee (Andrena haemorrhoa)

A Common Green Shieldbug

A Yellow Dung Fly

And the Cowslips are now in flower.

Well if he's not flying through the air, Ted can be found.........

........with his head stuck down a Bunny hole.

Nobody is in today, so here's Ted off to find another burrow.
