Another day in the back garden. No real highlights other than there was a small emergence of Bronze Furrow Bees. Also about were a couple of Honey Bees and a Buff-tailed Bumblebee.
There were reports of Pied Flycatchers, Swallows and Sand Martins moving up through the island, unfortunately all the reports were from Portland's west coast, though a chap I know in Easton had a few hirundine over his house. Nothing at all here.
And a mystery was solved today. I had 2 apples, both halved and placed on the feeder a few days ago. On the next day I discovered 2 had vanished. However today I watched a Herring Gull drop down, "hover" momentarily and grab one of the 2 remaining halves. No doubt the last half will be gone by tomorrow.
Here are a few images from today:
The resident male Dunnock in full flow.
Seems the Dunnock and this Blue Tit are the only birds in the garden that don't mind having their photos taken.
Both the Honey Bees I saw today were on this flowering Rosemary.
I'm hoping I've got the Id correct for this small bee as a Bronze Furrow Bee. At this time of year dozens start to emerge from the lawn and borders.
Bees Recorded: 2 Honey Bees (Apis mellifera), Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) and several Bronze Furrow Bee (Halictus tumulorum)
