St Andrews Church and Penn Wood

A sunny afternoon with lots of hoverflies, flies and bees about, but no butterflies

Not too many birds either and only real highlight was a Buzzard over Penn Wood which as usual didn't go unnoticed by the local Herring Gulls.

At St Andrew's Church there were a pair of Wall Lizards and I also came across one along Penn's Weare.

Here are a few images:

A male Wall Lizard

The same male joined by the female above.

This is the hoverfly Syrphus torvus

As mentioned before, this is one of the early hoverflies to be out in the Spring. More on this hoverfly Here.

A Honey Bee in flight.......

...........and when it landed there was a pollen sack which was white and not yellow. Odd!!

Wakeham

A dry start to the day and my first Large White butterfly of the year flying around the back garden. No sign of the female Blackcap, but on the feeders this morning 1 female and 2 male House Sparrows, a female Chaffinch, 2 Blue Tits, 3 Great Tits including the pale individual from a couple of days ago.
