Penns Wood, Church Ope Cove and Penns Copse.
One of those annoying days when you find something of interest and it flies off before you photograph it. Along Penns Weare, close to the copse, a bright orange moth about 1cm in length landed next to me, but as I knelt down it flew off. With hundreds of micro moths to be found in the UK, this one will have to wait to be ID'd, if I ever come across it again that is.
No Spring migrants at all today and the only bird of interest was a single Rock Pipit at the cove, possibly one half of the breeding pair here.
I came across another Speckled Wood today and just a single Peacock. To be honest though, with the temperature hovering around 6°C, I was surprised to see any at all on the wing this morning.
Yesterday I came across the larvae of a Bloody-nosed Beetle and today I came across an adult scaling the outside wall of the toilet bock at the back of the cove. Also in this area my first Common Carder Bee of the year.
A few hoverflies out today, not as many as yesterday. I had 1 Common Drone Fly, several syrphus and an Eristalis arbustorum.
Here a few images from this morning:
A very sunny Penns Wood, but looks are deceiving it was freezing.
A Common Drone Fly in the grounds of St Andrew's Church
Two hoverflies the one on the left an Eristalis arbustorum and on the right one of the Syrphus species.
Two Celery Flies, Euleia heraclei. Both different in size and also in colouration above the eyes (the one on the left is showing more orange).
