Reap Lane

I was back at Reap Lane again this morning in slightly breezier conditions and certainly sunnier than yesterdays fog. Today there was a female Serin in the field Here. It wasn't the easiest of finches to locate as it would fly up and then land in the long grass, creep along a bit and then reappear a few feet away from where we had been watching it.

A couple of times it took long flight, the first with a small flock of Goldfinches, where it split away from them and landed in the adjacent field, and the second occasion when it took off without reason and landed in the trees next to the barn. A few minutes later it was back in its "usual" field.

Also in the field a Whinchat briefly, 2 Wheatear and 2 Stonechat.

In the trees next to the barn, where the Serin was for awhile a female Common Redstart stopped off briefly.

Overhead quite a few Swallows and the odd House Martin or two.

Here are few images from this morning.

Not the easiest of birds to photograph let alone see in the long grass.

Occasionally it came out into the open. However the best views came when..........

........it took off and landed in the trees next to the barn.

Zoomed in a bit.

And a slightly better photo.

The Whinchat was a grab shot as it flew up from the paddock, into the bushes in the lane before heading off.

Birds Recorded: Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Skylark, House Martin, Swallow, Meadow Pipit, Dunnock, 1 Whinchat, 1 Common Redstart, 2 Wheatear, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Starling, House Sparrow, Linnet, Goldfinch and 1 Serin.

King Barrow Quarries

After my visit to Reap Lane I headed off to King Barrows Quarry. What a difference a day makes, yesterday was brilliant but today the best I could do was 1 Common Whitethroat and a Blackcap.

Here are few images from this morning.

Yesterday was my first visit to King Barrow Quarries and having found this notice board I now realise its a Nature Reserve.
Lots of quarries here which...........

.........when the conditions must be a haven for migratory birds. As it was yesterday.

A shame a one off shot of a headless Kestrel hovering. Next shot it was gone.

Sweat Bees, most likely Common Furrow-bee (Lasioglossum calceatum)

Birds Recorded: Kestrel, Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, Swallow, Meadow Pipit, Dunnock, Blackbird, 1 Common Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, Chaffinch, Linnet, Goldfinch and Greenfinch.

Also RecordedCommon Furrow-bee (Lasioglossum calceatum)
