Portland Castle and Portland Marina

Not much here today, with the only highlights being just one pair of Red-breasted Mergansers, a lone Mediterranean Gull and a Black-headed Gull in breeding plumage.

Birds Recorded:
Cormorant
Shag
1 Grey Heron
2 Red-breasted Merganser
2 Oystercatcher
1 Black-headed Gull
1 Mediterranean Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Carrion Crow
Jackdaw

At the entrance to Portland Marina......

............these two Cormorants were sat on the marina lights. That solar panel is going to take a bit of cleaning.

A juvenile Shag makes its way up the rocks to the top of the marina breakwater, with three Cormorants looking on.

A Grey Heron with its head buried in a crevice on the marina breakwater.

A drake Red-breasted Merganser attempts to climb up onto the discharge pipe just off Portland Castle Beach. A few seconds later it was back in the water with its mate. Behind are two Herring Gulls.

An adult Black-headed Gull in full breeding plumage.

Not a Black-headed Gull, but a 3CY Mediterranean Gull

I don't think this Carrion Crow was to happy about me and Ted interrupting its meal as we walked along one of the jetty's.

Ted:

What have you spotted Ted.......

..........a discarded Spider Crab and a........

..........presumed undersized Dogfish.
