Portland Bird Observatory, Culverwell, Lower Horse Fields, Hut Fields, Obs Quarry and Crown Estate Fields

It was back to the Obs this morning to see if I could find any Stock Doves, the "Obs" Chiffchaff, Obs Quarry Little Owl and a Merlin. The latter has been seen quite regularly on the posts in the lower horse fields just north of the Obs.

Well the first bird I ticked off was Stock Dove with not one, but 30+ in the Crown Estate Fields. How Andy and I missed them yesterday I have no idea!!

The Little Owl was tucked up inside its home and despite a good search for the Merlin, both birds eluded me.

However as I was returning to the car the Chiffchaff put in an appearance in the Obs front garden. So two out of 4 wasn't too bad.

One of 3 Kestrels around The Bill

An Oystercatcher. The white ring around the neck is an indication that it is in Winter plumage.

A female Stonechat. Elsewhere there were 3 more, a male and two more females.

Ravens in one of the Sheep fields.
