Out and About

On the way to the shops this afternoon, I dropped into Chesil Cove in the hope of finding the female Black Redstart, which has been here for most of January. My first walk along the promenade revealed nothing, but on my return to the carpark, she popped up about 20 metres from my car.

As I was feeling lucky I decided to have a look to see what was about at Ferrybridge. Apparently there had been a Grey Plover there earlier in the day, but it was long gone when I arrived.

Highlights here though were 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, 100+ Mediterranean Gulls, a few Black-headed Gulls and several Herring Gulls on the sandflats, whilst out in the Fleet there were 10+ Red-breasted Mergansers, a Great Crested Grebe and 2 Cormorants.

Eventually I got to do some shopping and then stopped off at Hamm Beach on the way home. Unfortunately no Turnstones here, but I did come across a female Stonechat and more Mediterranean Gulls.
