Ferrybridge and The Fleet

Main highlight of a visit to Ferrybridge this afternoon was my first Merlin of the year. Around about the size of a Mistle Thrush, it flew very fast along the edge of Chesil Beach just a few feet above the shingle. A great sight, but not for any small birds not keeping a wary eye out.

Birds Recorded:
20+ Cormorant
1 Little Egret
8 Red-breasted Merganser
1 Merlin
12 Oystercatcher
1 Ringed Plover
25 Dunlin
4 Bar-tailed Godwit
Black-headed Gull
Mediterranean Gull
Herring Gull
Great Black-backed Gull
Magpie
Carrion Crow

20+ Cormorants fishing in The Fleet

A Little Egret

In amongst the Mediterranean Gulls are a few Black-headed Gulls, Herring Gulls, an Oystercatcher and one of the Bar-tailed Godwits

There were 25 Dunlin and this lone 1st Winter Ringed Plover.

And just to show you how small Merlin's are, here is a photo of one sat on a handlers glove.
