Radipole RSPB Reserve

While Ted and Benji were being pampered at the groom room, I had a walk around Radipole RSPB Reserve for an hour or so. The sun and blue sky certainly brought the birds out and also the photographers with their huge lenses.

I have nothing against photographers, I was a photographer in the RAF for 33 years. But watching 5 photographers using a 600mm lenses to photograph Bearded Tits from just 6 metres away was a bit much.

On top of that they were jostling with each other to get the best position for a photograph. Social distancing!!! Apparently the pandemic has finished. I don't think so. Me I stood well back and recorded a pair feeding in the Reedbed. The Bearded Tits that is.

Other highlights were my first Goldeneye and Reed Bunting, plus the Bearded Tits to add to my 2022 bird list.

A Grey Heron soaks up the sun on one of the posts.

There has been some excellent reserve management at Radipole, with swathes of reedbeds cut right back to leave open areas. A task that hasn't gone unnoticed by these two........

.............male Stonechats. A female was also seen.
