What was going to be an extended walk today, ended up being a short one, as the rain began to fall. It wasn't much, just a fine drizzle, but with no waterproofs in the bag, I didn't want to chance it.
So on our short walk, the main highlights were 3 singing Common Whitethroats. There was no Reed Warbler or Chiffchaffs heard or seen today.
Despite the fine rain there were a few butterflies about, though the Common Blues decided not to put in an appearance.
Here are a few images from today:
It's been quite sometime since I checked out the Slow-worms next to Perryfields Butterfly Reserve. So it was great to see that they are still present in their usual spot.
A male Large Skipper. Not seen a female yet and this is only the second one I have seen this year. Where are they all!!
Well this Narcissus Bulb Fly (It's actually a hoverfly) is the third form I have come across this year. This one is Merodon equestris form bulborum
My first Bee-orchid I have come across on the butterfly reserve.
Such an amazing orchid and you can see where it gets its name from.
This is Viper's Bugloss, Echium vulgare
Hedge Bedstraw, Galium album
Now I wonder who this can be in the long grass.
Yep that will be Ted.
