Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Church Ope Cove Wood, Wakeham Railway Cuttings and Wakeham Wood.
A change in wind direction today, with a mean speed of 25mph coming straight up the island. With not to many sheltered spots with the wind in a southerly direction, it was pretty difficult to find any birds on my walk. Best today were a Firecrest as Rufus Castle and a Chiffchaff with 5 Long-tailed Tits along the railway cutting.
Elsewhere there were 25 Rock Pipits and a Grey Wagtail at the cove, and that was it for the highlights!!!!
Here are a few images from today:
This is the work of a leaf-miner and most likely by the caterpillar of the Golden Pygmy moth (Stigmella aurella) which "mines" bramble leaves. More on this moth Here
And finally the end of Wakeham Wood as the new land owner, having destroyed the winter roost for the Long-tailed Tits, Firecrests, Goldcrests, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps, has now started to grub out all the trees. Here are a couple of before and after shots.
...........today. And the reason for all of this, is to build yet another property. Sadly this one will create a new housing line, which undoubtedly will see more homes being built along this stretch going north.
