Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Perryfields Butterfly Reserve, Church Ope Car Park, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Church Ope Cove Wood and Wakeham Wood.

Well that was quite a storm last night as Storm Atiyah passed over us, but at least it left a nice sunny day, albeit a bit breezy. Main highlight was hearing (annoyingly not seeing) the "EasternLesser Whitethroat, which is still overwintering along the railway cutting here in Wakeham.

Other highlights were few and far between with just 1 Chiffchaff in Penns Wood, where there was also a Firecrest. Two more Firecrests were at the back of the cove, but other than that there was not much else about.

The beach at the cove had an increase in Rock Pipits with 25 recorded. Also here were 2 Pied Wagtails, 1 Grey Wagtail and 2 Wrens.

Also noted this afternoon were 2 juvenile Wall Lizards in the church grounds, where the German Wasps are still active, and 3 Red Admirals at the back of the cove.

Here are a few images from this afternoon:

A Goldcrest balances on a branch as it seeks out a snack.

This winter looks good for Firecrests. This one and another close-by, were at the back of the cove.

This Kestrel at the back of the cove is on the look out for its next meal. And minutes later it did just that by cornering a Rock Pipit on the cliff face at the north end of the beach. It took a couple of attempts to get its prey and then once in its talons it was off. However it wasn't expecting company and a second Kestrel spotted it and there was one big commotion as the second bird gave chase. One landed in a tree and the other disappeared over the cliffs to the south of the beach.

Once the dust had settled a Grey Wagtail dropped in onto the beach.

Also here was this adult Pied Wagtail. A 1st winter was close-by.

It was interesting watching this Pied Wagtail catching Kelp Flies. It more as less waited for the flies to fly pass and then plucked them out of the air. Quite unlike the Rock Pipits that you can see chasing down their prey.

Sticking to its rock, the Pied Wagtail was not impressed by Rock Pipits encroaching into its space!!!

This Rock Pipit stops for a break before heading off in search of more flies.

And off it goes along with the other 24 Rock Pipits here today, in search of those of those millions of Kelp Flies on the beach.

I'm not quite sure what this Grey Squirrel was doing. Maybe just doing a bit of sunbathing.

In the church grounds 2 juvenile Wall Lizards basking in the sun.

I think we know what this. Yep another German Wasp.

The sun was bright enough and warm enough to encourage these...........

..............Red Admirals to come out and have a feed on the flowering Hebe's.

The Japonica in Penns Wood is an amass of berries.

Here they are just splitting.
