Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Church Ope Car Park, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove and Church Ope Cove Wood.
A cloudy day, but at least the strong winds have died down. Birding was much the same as yesterday with Penns Wood and Church Ope Cove being the main birding areas this morning.
In the wood there was small flock of around 8 Long-tailed Tits and with them were several Great Tits, Blue Tits, 2 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests and a Chiffchaff. Also in the wood were 5 Blackbirds, 8 Chaffinches and the female Great Spotted Woodpecker. There was a very loud call of what sounded like a Yellow-browed Warbler, I heard it twice, once when I went down to the beach and again on my return trip. Unfortunately I just couldn't find it, if indeed it was a YBW!!
On the beach there were 25 Rock Pipits and the Grey Wagtail. No sign of the Pied Wagtails today.
At the Railway Cuttings there was another small party of 5 Long-tailed Tits, but no sign of the "Eastern" Lesser Whitethroat, which I last saw here on Friday 13 Dec.
In the church grounds the German Wasp nest is still active, but the two I saw here were looking very sluggish.
Here are a few images from today:
A Rock Pipit with Kelp Flies buzzing around its head.
Another Grey Squirrel photo.
And the German Wasps are still venturing out of their nest. You can just make out a second wasp inside the entrance.
