Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Perryfields Butterfly Reserve, Church Ope Car Park, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Church Ope Cove Wood and Wakeham Wood

A beautiful sunny day, but very cold as the wind veered around to a north-easterly direction. The garden thermometer was reading 6.3°C, but add in the wind-chill factor and it was considerably colder.

Main highlight today was not one but 2 Mistle Thrushes in Penns Wood. Its not often you see this species on the island, so a good couple of birds to start the day off.

Here are my sightings:

Perryfields Butterfly Reserve: 6 Long-tailed Tit

Penns Wood: 1 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 Goldcrest, 2 Firecrest, 30+ Long-tailed Tit, 2 Grey Wagtail and 2 Mistle Thrushes

Church Ope Cove
: 12 Rock Pipit, 1 Pied Wagtail and 2 Wrens. Out to sea a few Gannets.

Church Ope Cove Wood: 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 1 Sparrowhawk

Also noted was a Pheasant in the new Bumpers Lane Estate

Here are a few images from today:

Good to see two Chiffchaffs overwintering in Penns Wood. This is Chiff#1......

..........and Chiffchaff number #2

Not a sight you see often a Grey Wagtail perched in a tree.

At the bottom of Penns Wood a Goldcrest feeds in amongst the Brambles.

Also in the wood a Long-tailed Tit.

At the back of the cove just the one...................

...................Chiffchaff here. The second Chiffchaff with the white throat and distinct supercilium appears to have moved on.
One of the twelve Rock Pipits on the beach today.

It might have been around 6°C, but it was warm enough for a couple of wall Lizards in the grounds of St Andrew's Church.

And the lizards weren't the only ones out in the sun in the church grounds. This is a German Wasp sunning itself.
