Portland Beach Road
As I was heading across Portland Beach Road a Great Northern Diver flew over the road from Portland Harbour and into Chesil Cove at 12:30pm.
Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Church Ope Cove Wood and Portland Museum
After the morning rain drifted away, the sun came and what a big difference it made to the birding on my local patch, with the main highlights today being:
Penns Wood: 15 Long-tailed Tits, 1 Blackcap, a Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrests.
Church Ope Cove Wood: 2 Firecrests, 2 Goldcrests and a Chiffchaff
Portland Museum: 1 Chiffchaff
Elsewhere there were just 2 Rock Pipits, 1 Grey Wagtail and a Pied Wagtail on Church Ope Cove beach. Overhead a Sparrowhawk was on the prowl, whilst out to sea there were several Gannets.
Here are a few images from today:
Spot the Firecrest!! It's in there somewhere. Very flighty birds, with this one and its mate seen here at the back of the cove again today.
It wasn't so much about the Bluebottles and Muscid Fly soaking up the sun, but the amazing pattern on the tree trunk.
Mammals Recorded: Grey Squirrel
Birds Recorded: 7 Gannet, 1 Sparrowhawk, Herring Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Wood Pigeon, 2 Rock Pipit, 1 Pied Wagtail, 1 Grey Wagtail, Dunnock, Robin, Blackbird, 1 Blackcap, 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest, 2 Firecrest, 15+ Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Jackdaw, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch
