Portland Castle

What another miserable day, with the rain lasting well into the afternoon. I was down at the Marina late afternoon, checking on the boat, so I took the opportunity to have a look at the harbour area in front of Portland Castle. There were the usual Herring Gulls, Great Black-backed Gulls, Cormorants and Shags, plus an Eider a good 200 metres off the beach.

Here are a few images from today:

The view across Portland Harbour from the beach at Portland Castle.

Not the best of shots I'm afraid............

...........but my token efforts of the Eider.

Hopefully these...............

................. two videos are a bit better.

A Herring Gull lands with a snack. Unfortunately too far to ID the prey, but it was wriggling.

And this pair of Herring Gulls were foraging for shore crabs. And whilst I was watching them they managed to find a couple which.................

..................................they shared begrudgingly

Oh and all the noise in the background to the videos was this Sea King Mark 5 helicopter...............

...............with the pilot practicing his take off and landing skills  on the airstrip next to where I was standing. More on HeliOps Here.

Birds Recorded: Cormorant, Shag, 1 Common Eider, Herring Gull and Great Black-backed Gull
