Church Ope Cove

A cloudy and chilly day, with a fresh southerly wind. Main highlights this afternoon were a Black Redstart, Chiffchaff and 23 Rock Pipits in and around Church Ope Cove. Apart from that it was really quiet.

Here are a few mages from today.

Church Ope Cove on a cold breezy day.

One of the 23 Rock Pipits on the beach today.

On the battlements of Rufus Castle the Herring Gulls have a good view of what's going on around them.

This Herring Gull looks quite a beast of a bird.

In Penns wood on the way back home I came across this fly. Could this really be a Kelp Fly. If so its a good 200 metres from the beach!!

This is a Mahonia, and with around 70 species I haven't a clue as to which one this is. What I do know is that it flowers between Late Autumn to Early Spring. Like this one I have seen many with yellow flowers, though it does come in other colours. More on this plant Here.

Cotoneaster berries. I'm surprised there are any berries, as most of them have been eaten by wintering thrushes.

Good boys. In fact I've got them so well trained they both stop on command on the steps and then wait for me to photograph them. If photographing birds was as easy!! Mind you the Little Bunting is pretty good at posing for the camera. And the good news is that despite the moggies in Pebble Lane, Chiswell it is still feeding in the lane.
