Church Ope Cove

Its not often you see the waves coming in from an easterly direction and a few were quite large, as they crashed onto the beach. Only highlights today were 34 Rock Pipits on the beach and a Kestrel on the south facing cliff.

Here are a few images from this afternoon:

Church Ope Cove

Rough seas.

The beach takes a hammering as the waves come in from the east.

Quite a surf building up.

A Kestrel on the cliff overlooking the beach...........

........its probably got its eye on one of the 34 Rock Pipits here today.

Just to show you how windy it was, neither Ted or Benji could look at me.

This is Mahonia, quite a large shrub.

And here its just beginning to flower.

Birds Recorded: 1 Kestrel, 30+ Herring Gull, Wood Pigeon, 34 Rock Pipit, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Wren, Dunnock, 2 Blackbird, Great Tit, Blue Tit and Chaffinch.

Wakeham

A really cold day, with a icy south-easterly wind making it feel more like -6°C than +6°C.

The feeders in the back garden were alive with birds this morning, with Great Tits, Blue Tits, Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Chaffinches and a Robin all tucking into the sunflower and niger seeds.

Redwing landed in the Sycamore at the back of garden and remained for a few minutes before flying off.

Sad News: It appears that the Little Bunting is no longer at Chiswell, whether it perished at the jaws of the local black moggie or flew off to another location I have no idea. Here's hoping it was the latter.

Ships Today

This the LPG Tanker "Epic Burano" flying the flag of Singapore. This photo shows it sailing east towards the Isle of Wight, but in fact it looks like it was manoeuvres as it finally ended up back in Weymouth Bay. More on this vessel Here.
