Another sunny day and on the beach the Stonechat was still present, though one of the Black Redstarts seems to have moved on. The "Rock" Robin is still present and there is now a "Hut" Robin.
Also about were both the Grey and Pied Wagtails and over 40 Rock Pipits. I'm now wondering whether the state of the tide effects the numbers of pipits on the beach. It was low tide today when I visited, and there were considerably more pipits here than yesterday when the tide was further up!
Out to sea a Cormorant was fishing just off the beach and overhead the local Kestrel was hunting again.
I left the beach and headed up to Penns Wood, where I stayed for a good 30 minutes or so. For the first 10 minutes or so it was pretty quiet and then a flock of tits came through, along with 2 possibly 3 Chiffchaffs, 2 Goldcrests, a Firecrest and several Chaffinches in attendance.
Here are few images from this afternoon:
The tide is well down and there appeared to be more bird activity on the beach with over 40 Rock Pipits feeding in amongst the seaweed.
One of the many Rock Pipits on the beach looking for Kelp flies.
Every now and then there is a quick look skywards.
Another Rock Pipit on the roof of a beach hut.
Another on a rock is also looking skywards. And for a good reason as the...........
...........local Kestrel takes an interest...........
Those eyes don't miss a thing as it "hangs" above the beach.
The overwintering Grey Wagtail is enjoying itself around the huts and........
........beach.
The Stonechat seemed reluctant to come onto the beach. Maybe it to was aware of the Kestrels presence.
Similarly the one remaining Black Redstart seemed to stick to the cliff side.
Occasionally it would come down to beach.........
.......but this was as far as it would venture.
Here it has another look upwards.
A birds-eye view of the cove.
And above me on top of Rufus Castle this Herring Gull had an even better view.
One of the Chiffchaffs in Penns Wood. There were at least two birds, possibly a third, but it was difficult to keep track of all the birds in Penns Wood. There were just so many flitting about in the canopy and also I was permanently looking into the sun.
