Church Ope Cove

There was a break in the weather this afternoon and I managed a "flying" visit to the cove before the next bout of rain hit us. No Grey Wagtail today, but a male Pied Wagtail has taken its place.

The waves were really crashing up the beach and one wave put all the Rock Pipits up, which made them easy to count and I recorded 8. Not sure where the other 15+ pipits have gone!

Great to see the Stonechat back on the beach, but like the pipits it wasn't too impressed with the waves washing over the seaweed, especially as this is where the Kelp flies would have been to munch on.

There were the usual Wrens fitting back and forth between the rocks and cliff, and the resident Kestrel was perched on Rufus Castle keeping a beady eye out for a snack.

Here are a few images from this afternoon:

As I watching the Kestrel on top of Rufus it flew off on another hunting trip.

Not a Grey Wagtail today but a male Pied Wagtail

Also in amongst the Seaweed 8 Rock Pipits.

There was also a Stonechat, until that is the waves came crashing up the beach and they all flew off. In fact this was the one and shot of the Stonechat as I could relocate it after the wave hit.

Unsurprisingly a lot of things get washed up onto the beach during a storm and this a Dogfish.

The waves covering the seaweed, put paid to the pipits, wagtails and Stonechat feeding on any Kelp Flies.

Wakeham

The Chiffchaff was still in the neighbours garden this morning and wasn't put off by the torrential rain.

When it rains on Portland it hammers down.
