Wakeham Wood, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle, Bumpers Lane and Mermaid Track.

Well it was up early this morning in the hope of beating the rain, forecast for around 10:00 and my timing was spot on. I left the cottage at 8:00 and as I got home at 10:00, so the rain began to fall.

Here are a few highlights from this morning:

Wakeham Wood: 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 1 Firecrest

Penns Wood: 2 Goldcrest

St Andrew's Church: 1 Goldcrest

Church Ope Cove: 21 Rock Pipit, 1 Kestrel and 1 Black Redstart. Just off the beach 3 Black-headed Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 23 Herring Gull, 6 Great Black-backed Gull. Further out to sea 10+ Gannets, several Kittiwake and a Shearwater sp. 

Mermaid Track: 5 Chiffchaff, 3 Goldcrest, 6 Long-tailed Tit and a few Great Tit & Blue Tits.

Nothing else of note in the gloom.

Church Ope Cove

Its pretty rough this morning.........

..........with large waves crashing onto the beach and........

..........cliffs.

So windy with gusts up to 40 mph.

Along the south facing cliff a Black Redstart.

Also braving the elements was this Rock Pipit. A good total here today with 21 noted.

Just off the beach were 2 Mediterranean Gulls.

And the second bird.

And my effort of photographing a Firecrest very early on this morning. The light was so bad the camera wouldn't focus and I had to resort to using a flash. A lucky shot.

Birds Recorded: 1 Shearwater sp., 20+ Gannet, Cormorant, 1 Kestrel, 3 Black-headed Gull, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 23 Herring Gull, 6 Great Black-backed Gull, Wood Pigeon, 21 Rock Pipit, Dunnock, Robin, 1 Black Redstart, Blackbird, 8 Chiffchaff, 6 Goldcrest, 1 Firecrest, Long-tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Wren, Magpie, Carrion Crow, House Sparrow, Chaffinch and Goldfinch

Hoverflies Recorded: 1 Common Drone Fly (Eristalis tenax)

Flies Recorded: Kelp Fly (Coelopa frigida)

Slugs and Snails Recorded: Large Red Slug (Arion ater)
