Wakeham

In the early hours of the morning Ted decided he wanted out. The reason being he had heard something at the back of the house. Turns out it was Barn Owl singing from my neighbors garage roof. Sadly no recording but here are a couple of examples of what Ted and I heard, Here and Here.

Wakeham Wood, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church, Church Ope Cove, Penns Weare, Penns Copse, Rufus Castle and Portland Museum.

Well the weatherman wasn't wrong when he said any showers today would be heavy. Fortunately when the heavens opened I was right next to an old garage which saved me from a real soaking. Fortunately the remainder of the walk was in sunshine, but as my sightings below show, the rain certainly kept the numbers down.

Wakeham Wood
: 1 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 3 Song Thrush

Wakeham Railway Cuttings: 1 Chiffchaff and 1 Goldcrest

Penns Wood: 2 Chiffchaffs,  2 Goldcrests and 1 Grey Wagtail over

Church Ope Cove: 33 Rock Pipits on the beach and out to sea dozens of Gannets again.

A few butterflies about with 5 Red Admirals and 3 Painted Lady's

Here are a few images from today:

The Chiffchaff numbers really dropped off today, with just 5 seen and heard on my walk. This one was at that bottom of Penns Wood.

At least the Rock Pipit numbers are picking up.

Yesterday there was a record number of 45. Today a still impressive 33.

A Common Drone Fly

A Dead Head Hoverfly having a "clean-up". The hind legs are running down its wings, whilst......

............here it is cleaning its Abdomen.

Those crossed legs would suggest its had enough of me taking photos and needs to be somewhere else. 😧

This Dead Head Hoverfly is very meticulous with its grooming.
