Old Quarry Lane and Wakeham Meadow

Yep, I know!! Here I am back at the meadow again. But the good news is, I'm glad I did as I came across two newly emerged Marbled White butterflies. My first this year.

Other highlights were dozens of Garden Grass-veneer moths in the grass. Everywhere I walked they were taking off around my feet. In amongst them I came across two Thistle Ermines.


Birds Recorded:

Great Tit
Wren
Magpie
Carrion Crow
Jackdaw
House Sparrow
Chaffinch
Linnet
Goldfinch

There are at least 2 pairs of Dunnock nesting in and around the meadow.


Butterflies Recorded
:
Large White
10+ Speckled Wood
20+ Meadow Brown
2 Marbled White
2 Common Blue

There are still many Meadow Browns about.

And my first Marbled White this year.

And my second Marbled White

There seem to be fewer and fewer Common Blues on the wing now.

1 Thick-headed Fly (Sicus ferrugineus)

Just the one Thick-headed Fly (Sicus ferrugineus) seen today.

They are certainly an odd looking fly


Bugs and Beetles Recorded
:
Swollen-thighed Beetle (Oedemera nobilis)

Two male Swollen-thighed Beetles. Males aren't very tolerant with each other and the one on the right was forced of the Knapweed a few seconds after I took this photo.


Plants:
Dog Rose (Rosa canina)

The light pink flowers of a Dog Rose.
