Out and About

It was a trip to Poole today and a visit to Bournemouth Canoe Shop, for some ideas about fitting a Fish Finder onto my kayak.

On the way there we had a quick break at Poole Boating Lake (free parking for 2 hours 👍) to stretch ours and Teds legs, before heading off to the shop.

On the way back a Great Spotted Woodpecker flew across the road, just outside of Weymouth.

Birds Recorded:
Mute Swan
Mallard
Black-headed Gull
Herring Gull
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Wood Pigeon
Pied Wagtail
Blackbird
Wren
Magpie

A pair of Mute Swans with Cob having a stretch, with the Pen behind him and a lone cygnet to the right

Just the one cygnet, I wonder what happened to the others. That's assuming there were more!!

A few bread crumbs thrown into the water by a passer-by soon got the gulls going. Mind you it was a close call for the Herring Gull bottom left, as the Cob was about to give it a good old peck.

The majority of the gulls on the water were Black-headed Gulls and Herring Gulls. So seeing just this one Lesser Black-backed Gull on its own seemed a bit odd.

Here it is flying off to join.............

.............the Herring Gulls on the water. From what I can make out the Lesser Black-backed Gull is pretty close to being a 2nd Summer bird.

General Shots:

The boating lake is a fair size with several small islands dotted about. On one of the I caught a glimpse of an Oystercatcher coming into land.

And here we have David and Ted.
