Old Quarry Lane and Wakeham Meadow

Yet another glorious day, but unfortunately a very short walk as I had to be in Weymouth mid-afternoon.

Not that many highlights on the briefest of walks, with just a solitary Blackcap and 2 Swallows.

The one solitary Ivy plant I pass on this particular walk had 2 Ivy Bees on it; a female and the slightly smaller male.

The Speckled Wood butterflies now outnumber the Red Admirals. And I also came across two pristine looking Painted Lady's. Just a shame I couldn't get a decent photo of them.

10+ Speckled Wood
5 Red Admiral
2 Painted Lady

It was a good day for Speckled Woods with........

..........a good 10 or more seen along the lane and pathways.

There were fewer Red Admirals today. Maybe they have moved onto other Buddleias, as the flowers of those in the lane and meadow are beginning to die off now.

And a naff photo of one of the two pristine looking Painted Lady's I came across.

Bees Recorded:
Honey Bees (Apis mellifera)
Buff-tailed Bumblebee (Bombus terrestris)
Common Carder (Bombus pascuorum)
Ivy Bee (Colletes hederae)

On the one and only Ivy along my walk was this female Ivy Bee and then.......

..........the smaller male.

Bugs and Beetles Recorded:
Possibly the miridae Notostira elongata

The second naff photo from today. The best I can come up with, is that this might possibly be the miridae - Notostira elongata. It doesn't have a common name but in Norway it is called a tofaset græstæge. Which translated into English is a "Two-phase grass stalk" Hmm I might have to pass on that!!

Crickets and Grasshoppers Recorded:
Short-winged Cone-head (Conocephalus dorsalis)

A Short-winged Cone-head in the meadow.

Slugs and Snails Recorded:
White-lipped Banded Snail (Cepaea hortensis)

Ted
:

It wasn't a good day with the camera, and the best I could do with Ted, was this over the shoulder look.
