Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadow and Perryfield Quarry Butterfly Reserve

This is more like, wall to wall sunshine, though it did mean a much shorter walk for Ted.

No real highlights but plenty of butterflies seen and for the third day running another Willow Warbler heading south.

Here are a few images today:

A Common Blue

I didn't get a chance to see these "blue" butterflies with their wings open, which would have helped identify them. However......

.......going by the underwing patterns I think these are a pair of Chalk Hill Blues.

And this is the female about to be "pounced" on by the male.

A lot easier to identify. This is is a Gatekeeper and there are dozens still about.

A Six-spot Burnet moth on a Knapweed.

Another Six-spot Burnet with a female Swollen-thighed Beetle for company.

Amazing colours on this Pea Moth.

I have come across this species before, and like a majority of moths they can vary in size, pattern and colour.

A male Red-tailed Bumblebee

And a Large Meadow Mining Bee (Andrena labialis)......

.........with the antennae of another Six-spot Burnet just showing at the rear.

Ted is off across the Butterfly Reserve

Looks like he's found something down a hole. That should keep him amused for a bit.
