Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church Grounds, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle, The Cuttings Quarry and Mermaid Track
After a bit of cloud this morning, it brightened up to leave a nice sunny and warm afternoon. We had planned to go out on Star, but unfortunately with a stiffening breeze it would have been a bit uncomfortable.
So it was off for a walk with Ted down to Church Ope Cove, which, when we arrived was absolutely packed. Even the grounds of St Andrew's Church were crowded, this time with Lepidopterists, all sat patiently for a sighting of a Large Tortoiseshell, which incidentally have bred on the island for the third year running.
So in the end it was a quick walk through Penn's Copse and off to The Cuttings Quarry, followed by a walk down the Mermaid Track.
Highlights were 15 butterfly species recorded and my first Six-Spot Burnet Moths of the year. The latter found in The Cuttings Quarry.
Here are a few images and videos from today:

Biting Stonecrop, Sedum acre on Penn's Weare, with Rufus Castle as a backdrop.
On the steps below Rufus Castle was this very shiny Bloody-nosed Beetle.
The Cuttings Quarry (A given name by me). Out of the wind there were quite a few butterflies like..........
...........this Gatekeeper and........
..........Common Blue.
And also here were my first 2 Six-Spot Burnet Moths of the year.
Ted having a look across the cove.
He seemed interested in what was going on below on the beach.
Right that's enough.......
.........time to carrying on walking and a bit of.........
..........a work out pushing this railway sleeper up with my back.
