Wakeham

It was a quick walk across the road to Wakeham Meadow and back this morning, and then the rest of the afternoon was spent working in the back garden. Late afternoon and it was BBQ time plus watching the Khaki Campbell's having their first swim in the paddling pool. It's all go at Polly's Cottage!!

There were some good wildlife sightings today and it was great to have Benji walk with me and Ted. Here are my sightings from today.

I'm noticing more of these Thick-headed flies. This one is a Physocephala rufipes

This is a Tawny Cockroach and these are very fast invertebrates, continually scurrying around in the undergrowth.

A rare sight Benji and Ted out for a walk together.

You never quite know what's lurking in the pond. Having just topped it up a Common Frog popped up to the surface.

There were quite a few butterflies about today. In fact the garden had six species, including a Marbled White and this worn Gatekeeper.

There is a Blue-tailed Damselfly seen almost daily by the pond.

A very striking hoverfly, with an interesting name. It is known as The Footballer.

And another hoverfly, which I dont seem to recognise. One to check later.

This is a Sand Wasp and a regular visitor to the back garden. I believe this one is Ectemnius sexcinctus

Sat on a Fig leaf was this Speckled Bush Cricket.

And finally the Khaki Campbell's have their first swim.

Judging by their size it look as if we have two drakes and a duck.

Here they are having a bit of a splash.
