West Weares

Well I thought I'd keep out of the wind, by having a walk along the West Weare's today. How wrong was I, with the wind coming in from an easterly direction, but still managing to blow down Portland's west coast. Most odd!!

Despite the wind gusting to around 38mph, I still managed to find a few highlights, though it was hard work. But I did manage to record 20 species, with the best being two Peregrines hunting for pigeons.

I watched them on three occasions dive bomb solitary Wood Pigeons as they passed by. Twice the pigeons manage to evade the falcons, but on the third attempt, the pair disappeared behind a rocky outcrop and all I could see was a loads of white feathers flying through the air.

On the migrant front all I had was 2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Stonechat, 5 Chiffchaff and 2 Siskin

1 Gannet
2 Peregrine Falcon
1 Kestrel

A Pterodactyl over Chesil Beach. Well it might have been in the late Jurassic period through the late Cretaceous period, approximately 145 to 66 million years ago.

Ahh a juvenile Gannet is what it is.

It was coasting up and down Chesil Beach.........

............ in search of a meal.

High up on the cliff tops..........

.............. were these two Peregrines looking for their next meal

And perched on a hut roof a Kestrel

And three Oystercatchers feeding on the rocks.
