Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Wildlife Site and Wakeham Meadows

It was a very late afternoon walk, and I wasn't expecting to find a lot, but coming across 2 Chiffchaffs by the meadow and watching a "flock" of 35 Swallows passing overhead was great to see.

Just 2 Ivy Bees seen and 1 Honey Bee were noted, though there were many Common Wasps still flying about, especially from their nest site by the meadow.

It was late, but all I could find were singles of Honey Bee,.................

Wasps, Ichneumon Wasps, Parasitic Wasps and Gall Wasps Recorded

Gall Wasp (Dipoloepis rosaea)

I suspect this is one of the Common Wasps from the nest in Wakeham Meadow.

A Robin's Pincushion on a Dog Rose. It is a gall caused by the larvae of a tiny Gall Wasp, Dipoloepis rosaea. More on this Here

There were dozens of Craneflies about. I shall endeavour to find out which species is. This site looks good to try here.

1 Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis) - form succinea

Just one Harlequin Ladybird seen, this is the form succinea

Everywhere I went this dog..........

.........kept popping up in front of me. It could only be Ted making sure I'm coming.
