Thumb Lane and Avalanche Road

With the Autumn migration well on its way, I decided to have a walk from Thumb Lane to Avalanche Road and back.

In the copse at Thumb Lane there were 2 Spotted Flycatchers and on the way back a fem/juv Pied Flycatcher. Also here were 4 Willow Warblers/Chiffchaff.

At Avalanche Wood I came across another Spotted Flycatcher. Also here was a Blackcap and 2 Willow Warblers.

Between the two locations I also came across 2 more Willow Warblers, another Blackcap and a Common Whitethroat.

Other things of note were 6 Hummingbird Hawk-moths along my walk, plus a Painted Lady.

Unlike Pied Flycatchers, which tend to fly to another branch after it has caught its prey, Spotted Flycatchers often return to the same branch after a successful catch. This one returned twice before moving onto another tree.
