Old Quarry Lane, Wakeham Meadow, Wakeham Railway Cuttings, Perryfields Quarry Butterfly Reserve, Penns Wood, St Andrew's Church Grounds, Church Ope Cove, Penn's Weare, Penn's Copse, Rufus Castle, Bumpers Lane and Lower Horse Paddock.

A beautiful day but very few birds about. In fact all the regulars have disappeared. There was no sign of the Black Redstarts, Pied Wagtails and the Grey Wagtail at the cove. The pair of Stonechats in the Lower Horse Paddock were nowhere to be seen. And there weren't any Chiffchaffs seen or heard ,or even the Great Spotted Woodpecker.

The best I could do was 12 Long-tailed Tits & 2 Goldcrests in Penns Wood, 3 Rock Pipits at the cove and 1 Meadow Pipit and 2 Pied Wagtails in the Lower Horse Paddock.

I did have some other good news though, and that was Ted joining me for his walk. He was going to the vets for a brush and polish of his teeth, but we had a change plan when we found out how much it was going to cost. We are now actively looking for another Vet.

Here are a few images and videos from today:

By the look on his face I think this Grey Squirrel has "clocked" us

The one thing you have to be careful of when you're running away and that is..........

..........you don't trip over. Ouch

Church Ope Cove and on the horizon the passenger ship Disney Dream on its way to Portland.

It seems to be that sort of a day when the wildlife is watching me. One of the 3 Rock Pipits at the Cove.

On the cliff above The Cuttings were these two.........

..........Feral Pigeons, also keeping an eye on me. Time to go home I think.

This fungi is still in the Lower Horse Paddock and I......

...........still don't know what it is. I will find out!!

And a very early Primrose with an interesting leaves, which I believe have been "mined" by a moth caterpillar. Another one to investigate.

The ever inquisitive dog. Ted with his snout "stuck" under a pebble.

Ships Today

This is the Passenger Ship "Disney Dreams" flying the flag of the Bahamas

It is on its way from Brest to Portland. More on this vessel Here.

And a short video of it approaching Portland Harbour.

Well I have seen some odd things in my life, but this is a really good example of an optical illusion. This is the Maltese Cargo Ship "Neptune Dynamis"  on its way from Southampton to Bristol, and you would be forgiven in thinking that it is a large white vessel. But as you can see from a higher advantage point.........

...........it is actually more blue than white. More on this vessel Here.

And way off on the horizon the Portuguese Container Ship "Mirror" on its way from Dublin to Rotterdam. More on this vessel Here.

Aircraft Today

I first saw this Hawker Hunter on 21 Jul 20, so it was good to see it back again over island.

And after it had completed a few circuits around Portland it headed back to Sherbourne. More info on this aircraft Here from 21 Jul, at the bottom of the page
